Pop!Tech opening wins TDC award

This evening Stina Carlberg and Christina Rüegg (both of Trollbäck and Company) will receive a Type Directors Club award for their Pop!Tech 2008 opening. Trollbäck’s Pop!Tech description:

With the conference’s theme of “Scarcity and Abudance,” we chose to use the dynamic qualities of flowing ink and ferrofluids to create the rhythmic interplay of the two opposing but symbiotic states. From one extreme to the other, the progression goes from ethereal to explosive, but concludes with the sense that something new is about to unfold.

Terre Natale on Processing.org

Casey Reas, cofounder of the Processing language, has posted the Terre Natale project on Processing.org’s Exhibition Page. We are very excited to be featured here. The project description on Processing appropriately focusses on the digital team, but for more information on all of the collaborators who made this project possible please see Stewdio Blog items tagged Terre Natale.

Below is a one minute excerpt from the half-hour show that demonstrates humanity divided equally between cities and rural areas, a threshold only recently crossed in 2007. In this visualization nearly six million pixel-sized “agents” fill the screen and flock to their geographic home. First the city-dwellers take their place, illustrating 50% of all living people occupying a tiny portion of Earth. Finally the remainder of “agents” take their place, filling out the familiar shapes of the continents.

Stewart returns from Amsterdam

Stewart has just returned to New York City from a two-week stay with Wieden+Kennedy in Amsterdam. “I have been so humbled by the hospitality of my hosts here in Amsterdam. Thanks for making it a great experience. It was a pleasure meeting Ness Higson, Jamie, Bob, Nacho, Kimia, and the rest of the W+K extended family. And thanks to Sebastian Campos we were able to meet Rafaël Rozendaal and after some drinks see his INTERNET tattoo.”

Here’s a nerd highlight from the flight home :

Solving a Rubik’s Cube at Wieden+Kennedy

Yesterday Stewart took a moment (two minutes and ten seconds) to solve a Rubik’s Cube in the bright red lobby of Wieden+Kennedy in Amsterdam. At some point in the future the Cube will figure prominently in a project, just unclear on how.
