The GrayBoard allows for dual reads depending on the viewer's distance, privileging "important announcements" set in large bold characters. A continuous chat thread runs down the screen chronologically in smaller black characters. The background gradient from black to gray reveals the chat thread proportionally to the distance down screen.
Each time new information is loaded an alert sound plays based on the Port Authority Bus Terminal announcement chime. The selected typeface, Gotham, was highly influenced by the Port Authority's original signage. The use of grayscale is also a nod to the PABT, having spent years staring at its gray parking structure from O R G's windows. It should be noted that the Yale graphic design studio also has windows along only a single wall and these windows face a parking garage.
